5/21/2023 0 Comments How music works book review![]() ![]() I have yet to see other resources go into the psychology of how language affects lyric writing. The same goes for the lyric section of the book. Once a musician or songwriter learns those fundamentals, all the doors open for them to make conscious creative decisions. ![]() How Music Really Works is still the only book which explains that in accessible language how all that works. ![]() Youtube has been a great resource for me as a visual learner, but there still aren't videos that explain exactly how notes within a chord interact with neighboring notes and WHY they create certain effects. ![]() I feel that most beginners wanting to learn about chord progressions and how to write melodies should dedicate time to read this book before searching haphazardly on the internet or even Youtube. It's loaded with excellent examples using popular and successful songs to demonstrate how theory translates into emotional enjoyment of music and songwriting as both communication and an art. Back in 2012, I reviewed How Music Works, David Byrne's best book to date, an absolutely vital text explaining not only the biology, politics and aesthetics of music (and all art, really). ![]() 5/21/2023 0 Comments No time like the future book![]() ![]() In the middle of its run, in 1985, Fox starred in the international hit "Back To The Future."
